Meetup Groups meet face-to-face to pursue hobbies, network, get support, make friends, find playgroups or even change the world!
Get on the Internet to get off the Internet!
You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Hi, and welcome to our Women's Social. The following information is some we borrowed from other Meetup Groups we attend and we think it's pretty accurate for how we run this group as well.
You Want to Cross-post Your Own Meetup/Party/Event on Our Calendar
If you are an active member in our group (i.e. you have actually attended one of our events) you are welcome to use the message board to inform the rest of us about an event that may be of interest to us. This includes Meetups that you organize or attend, informal private parties, and the like. Posting on the message board instead of the mailing list is a nice, non-invasive way to spread the word to the 50% of members who are interested in your party, while protecting the other 50% of members who would view your invitation in their email box as an unwanted annoyance.
If we have not made your acquaintance and the first we hear of you are your cross-posts for other Meetup groups, we will tend to assume you joined our group solely to promote your own, and that does not generate goodwill or good karma. We reserve the right to delete your message board posts if we feel taken advantage of.
You're in Promotions and You Want to Advertise (a.k.a. Host Us or Sell Us Something)
We frequently get emails from people, product sellers, businesses, and/or organizations who want to either host us for an event or have us host an event where they can sell us things. You're welcome to go to town contacting us about such events. However, it is highly unlikely you'll receive a personal reply from us. We have lives. We are busy. We don't have time to send out twenty No Thank You's every time we check our email.
Your chance of getting a reply increases tenfold if your email does not fall under the following categories:
As a rule, we do not allow direct sales parties such as Avon, Mary Kay, Passion Parties, etc, on our calendar. If you want to post information about your party on our message board, this is fine and you are welcome to. But we will not make it an official RSVPable event endorsed by our organizers.
We also periodically get emails from event promoters who want access to our mailing list in order to sell tickets to wine tastings, spa events, cruises, etc. We are very sensitive to the reasons people signed up for our mailing list - and to receive solicitation emails is likely not high on that list of reasons. We never want members to feel they are being solicited for money. As such, we will not spam our mailing list or message board with sales pitches, no matter how "fun" they sound.
In short: We do not sponsor events that will make the promoters, the hostess, or a friend of the hostess a profit. Money does not change hands within this meetup group unless attendees are paying for supplies for a craft or item they are taking home with them and at that point they will only be charged the exact amount to cover their supplies.
This has wide-ranging implications that affect other situations, like paying a door fee to attend an event such as a clothing swap. These situations are decided on a case-by-case basis, but in general the decision is negative towards those types of events. If you want to host an event but think putting out refreshments (or whatever your "fee" would go to) is a financial burden, then make it a potluck. We loooove potlucks.
We are here to make friends, not do business!
